Su Wu's noble integrity has shone brightly, spanning more than two thousand years, becoming an eternal scenery in the long river of history like a rainbow piercing through the sky. He was fortunate enough to be born in the period of Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty, which opened up new territories. He witnessed the mighty glory of the Han family in that era. Fortunate to live during the expansionist Han Wudi Dynasty, he witnessed the outstanding military glory of the mighty Han era. Like Wei Qing and Huo Qubing, he defended the dignity of the great Han Dynasty and earned a place in the annals of the universe. As an envoy to the Xiongnu (Hun), he fulfilled his mission without disgrace. He is an unswerving warrior and an indomitable hero unyielding to force. Su Wu forged an immortal role model with his robust character. History composed music for him, allowing the majestic and intense rhythm to flow for thousands of years. Thus, the solemn and stirring song of “Su Wu Hersing Sherp” has become one of the classic Chinese tunes; it’s his legendary experiences and heroic integrity that have touched thousands of generations! Creating this work, I traveled back to that soul-stirring historical time and space, where the setting sun over the long river, the sound of Qiang flute amid the wolf smoke (*smoke from the wolf dung burnt to signal warfare), the fierce winds over the resilient grass, in the vast wildness. The harsh living environment, the dead-silent Lake Baikal, the sheep he depended on for life, living in the bitter coldness for 19 years, Su Wu challenged the limits of life, withstood extreme tests, and achieved an extraordinary humanistic spirit recorded in history with his ordinary life.
