Uttaporn Nimmalaikaew was born in 1980 in Bangkok, Thailand. He holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from Silpakorn University, Thailand, and currently serves as the art director of the painting department at the School of Architecture, King Mongkut's Institute of Technology. His works combine painting with various materials, creating a new form of three-dimensional art that uses layered materials and spatial structures to produce a distinctive visual effect.
Uttaporn is known for using soft materials like gauze, netting and mesh as his medium, layering them and incorporating painting techniques to create images that appear to float, evoking a holographic effect.
The themes of his works revolve around the human inner world, focusing particularly on the fragility, chaos, and sense of alienation in the human mind. Through his layered structures, Uttaporn captures the fluctuations of inner emotions, reflecting the struggles and anxieties that people face between desire and reality. His artistic vision is deeply influenced by Buddhist philosophy, especially the contemplation of impermanence and suffering, which he vividly expresses in his creations.
