Founded in October 1978, Apollo Art Gallery is one of the first private institutions in Taiwan which presented art works of local and international artists at a time when governmental art museums did not yet exist.
For the past 40 years Apollo Art Gallery has been presenting hundreds of artists developing their art work on variant subjects with multiple materials and techniques, such as oil, water color, Chinese ink, lacquer, Eastern gouache, acrylic, engraving, mixed media, sculpture, etc.
Since 1981 the gallery has been presenting European contemporary art works by Valerio Adami, Leonardo Cremonini, Henri Cueco, Erro, Wolfgang Gafgen, Johannes Gerard, Peter Klasen, Gustav Klimt, Gottfried Kumpf, Uwe Mertsch, Jacques Monory, Hans Muhr, Bernard Rancillac, Gerard Schlosser, Carmel Titus, Vladimir Velickovic etc.
Beginning from 1990s the gallery is dedicating to presentation of oversea Taiwanese/Chinese artists with outstanding achievement, like Walasse Ting (Holland), San Yu (France), Bih-in Dai (Spain), Santos Hu (Spain), Ching-Lang Hou (France), Hilo Chen (USA), Augustin, Tzen Sieur (USA), Chao-Mo Hwang (Belgium), Shudan (Spain), Kuang-Yu Lee (Spain), Chin Hsiao (Italy). The gallery is aiming for a long-term relationship with the artists. Certain artists have been in program for more than 30 years.
Throughout the years, the gallery continues to participate at number of art fairs such as the Art Fair Cologne, Berliner Liste, Art Prague, Art Taipei, Art Taichung, Art Tainan, Shanghai Citizen Art Fair, Chengdu Art Fair, Art Gwangju, and Art Jeju etc..
To accompany the exhibitions an education program, such as lectures of art history and artist talks, take place in the gallery space regularly. Moreover, visiting tours and oversea art trips are arranged for the art friends and collectors annually.
The gallery also devoted taking on different forms of art projects and non-profit ventures, such as curating exhibitions like “Solo exhibition of Chiang han-tung ” at the Museum of Ethnology in Vienna (Austria; 1992), “Group exhibition of Taiwanese painters in Spain” at Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center Of Tamkang University (Taiwan; 2013), “Art Trio” at HTC Headquarter in New Taipei City (Taiwan; 2014), “Focusing Taiwan” at Art Space of National Taipei University (2015) .
In co-operation with Education Foundation of Industrial Bank of Taiwan, Apollo Art Gallery established the “Apollo & IBTEF Art Awards” to encourage young talents under the age of 35 in 2014.
