Tansbao Gallery, established in 2018 in Taipei, examines contemporary Himalayan art from an art historical perspective. It is one of the most dedicated galleries in Asia for promoting contemporary art from the Himalayan region. Tansbao focuses on advancing contemporary art from Bhutan, exclusively representing several outstanding Bhutanese contemporary artists, including Asha Kama, the father of Bhutanese contemporary art, the innovative artist Gyempo Wangchuk, Tintin Pema Tshering, and the internationally active female artist Zimbiri. These exceptional artists are deeply rooted in Bhutanese culture, ensuring that Bhutan's cultural heritage and stories are articulated, understood, and appreciated within the global art community. Through a series of continuous exhibitions, Tansbao has successfully promoted the visibility of these artists' works in international museums and art fairs.
Recently, Tansbao has begun collaborating with a group of Nepalese artists, further expanding its representation and officially partnering with the internationally renowned Nepalese artist Tsherin Sherpa. Tsherin Sherpa represented Nepal at the 2022 Venice Biennale and has participated in Art Basel Hong Kong three times with solo exhibitions. Starting in 2024, Tansbao will officially become the Mandarin-speaking region’s representative gallery for Tsherin Sherpa, planning major museum exhibitions across Asia. Tansbao is committed to thoroughly researching and advancing the context of contemporary Himalayan art, with the promotion of Himalayan contemporary art as its core mission.
As one of the most active emerging galleries in Taiwan in recent years, Tansbao also focuses on contemporary Chinese art. Since 2020, it has represented overseas Chinese abstract artists, including Shen Han, as well as contemporary ink artists such as Hsiao Po-Jyun, Ko Liang-Yan, Lo Chieh, and Tsai Ming-Tsan, all of whom possess deep ink painting skills and cultural background. Furthermore, Tansbao has officially partnered with Li Junyi, an internationally renowned Chinese ink artist and a key successor to the father of Asian modern ink art, Liu Guosong, to continue planning international art fair collaborations.
Tansbao constructs a unique new Eastern aesthetic style through "Eastern philosophy" as its foundation and "drawing from the past while seeking the new" as its guiding principle, gaining recognition in the art community. It has been invited to serve as a board member of the Gallery Association of Taiwan, representing the emerging gallery landscape.
