- Depiction: When encountering the works of artist Jiyeon Song, one is struck by the rough, thick textures and the impressions of the city that we encounter in everyday life. Her work uses the city where she was born and raised as a medium to show the organic relationship between her life and environment. The accumulation of pigment through numerous brushstrokes, repeatedly painting and erasing on her canvases, can be seen as a record of time that encapsulates her journey and process of searching for her identity. This repetitive process of painting and erasing not only creates a unique texture where the materiality of the pigment stands out but also serves as a method of self-reflection for the artist—a process of questioning the meaning of existence and reexamining the meaning of life.
