KAIJU Attack!!

In Japan, there is a belief known as "Yaoyorozu" (the eight million gods), where it is thought that deities reside in everything in the natural world. The KAIJU depicted in this artwork is formed from a mass of garbage and debris, symbolizing the gathering of the gods to warn modern people living in a society of mass consumption. Additionally, Japan has a cultural concept called "mitate." "Mitate" involves likening one thing to another and imagining the existence of something that doesn't actually exist. Through this "mitate," the Japanese have created many beings such as KAIJU and yokai (supernatural creatures). KAIJU were born out of unresolved anger and sorrow caused by war, while yokai arose from a deep sense of awe toward the overwhelming forces of nature. The KAIJU I’ve depicted here was created by using the concept of "mitate," embodying the thoughts of plants, animals, and the gods of nature in the form of a KAIJU. One could say it represents the earth itself, where the totality of all things in nature has manifested and taken form.
