- Depiction: Liou Shiuan Shi’s artwork is rooted in historical contexts but does not dwell solely on documented records. Through hands-on practice and physical performance, it exhibits a dynamic tension filled with practical intensity. For instance, his piece "Fighter Jet Test Stand," assembled from military devices sourced from various countries, includes components like optical sights from fighter jets, anti-aircraft machine gun sights, vacuum tube testers, and meters from the U.S., China, and Japan. This experimental test apparatus, developed for fighter jet cockpits, is designed to help pilots execute aerial missions with greater precision. To achieve an ideal balance between visual and functional elements, Liou equips the piece with optical fire control devices, ballistic calculators, and radio equipment. In recent series, although Liou's works are inspired by the theme of war, he rejects heroic or monumental representations centered on human figures. Instead, he focuses on the materiality itself, presenting a message of peace and anti-war sentiment. Through juxtaposition within these series, Liou shifts the culture of war toward systems of cognition and narrative structures, aiming to highlight the shared memory forged from military remnants and cultural artifacts across nations, formed in the face of war history.
