Yang-Tsung FAN was born 1982 in Hsinchu, Taiwan, and graduated from Fine Arts, Taipei National University of the Arts, Taiwan.
From the early "View from Within ", "Airplane Series", and "Nightclub" to his renowned "Swimming Pool Series," FAN's mastery of painting techniques and unique, intense visual tension has created a rare artistic language—one that can be understood globally without translation. At the edge of an open yet intimate public swimming pool, he presents a peculiar and illogical perspective to visualize the hidden desire of people to gaze, or even to be gazed at, in the space. The half-naked bodies in swimsuits reveal sunburned gradient skin, while sweat beads roll and evaporate on the surface. Reflections of distant small swimmers can be seen in large goggles, and the intense collision of waves below the water contrasts with the languid warmth on the surface. These swimming pool objects and figures, intertwined with colors, produce a distinctive sensory experience.
FAN's works are part of the collections of the globally top-ranked Los Angeles El Segundo Museum of Art private museum and the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts. FAN has twice been invited to exhibit at Beijing Hive Contemporary Art Center in the recent two years: "Silhouette Of Splendors" group exhibition (2023) and "Inward Gaze: Infinite Expressions" group exhibition (2022). In 2014, he was invited to exhibit at the El Segundo Museum of Art in the United States for the "HOME" exhibition, where his artworks were displayed alongside renowned German artist Ludwig Richter and French art master Théodore Géricault. His extensive exhibition history includes AKI Gallery Leipzig Prospect, Leipzig, Germany (2019), Galerie EIGEN + ART Berlin, Berlin, Germany (2018), Spinnerei, Leipzig, Germany (2018), Taipei Cultural Center in New York, New York, USA (2009), and Elga Wimmer PCC, New York, USA (2009).
