Satoru KOIZUMI (b.1983) was born in Miyagi, Japan, graduated from Okinawa Perfectural University of Arts. He works and lives in Japan.
KOIZUMI is known for depicting children wearing animal costume. The innocent face of the child implies that as we grow older, we tend to lose what is endued among us. Beyond simply lovely and warm. The animal series reflects a deeper question that we all need to ponder on. In the industrialized society, fast pace and established regulations make human hard to live in the way they want and start to forget or suppress the real self. In KOIZUMI’s sculptures, he tries to remind us that “Wilderness is the source of life.” Through craving on camphor wood, making the texture naturally appear on human and animal skins.
