Zhou Meng (1992) was born in Shaoxing, Zhejiang. He holds a master's degree in Moving Image from the Royal College of Art, UK, and a bachelor's degree in Painting from Camberwell College of Arts, London, UK. As an artist and observer, his work often explores the dialectics of natural ecology, cultural heritage, and transitions. Using installations, moving images, paintings, and sculptures, he visualizes speculative thinking and human responsibilities towards culture and nature. His creations begin with a curiosity about nature and materiality, utilizing traditional and modern craft techniques to restore, combine, and refine elements. Guided by chance, he views each interaction with materials as a transformative journey, with each layer recording different stories' warmth and texture. Zhou aims to create immersive, fictional scenarios, abstracting the relationships between humans and their environment. Inspired by regional myths, natural environments, and folklore, he depicts traces altered by mainstream cultures. The legacy and spirit of the ancients inspire him as he navigates contemporary conflicts and his place within them.
