Born in Tokyo, Japan, LIU Keng-I moved back to Liuying, Taiwan with his family at a young age. As a youth, he studied painting under his father, LIU Chi-Hsiang, and won several "Tai-Yang Prizes" as well as awards from provincial art exhibitions. LIU Keng-I (1938-) describes his artistic creations as a "response to the uncompromising nature of reality, striving to transcend it, break through the constraints, confusion, and anxiety of the times, and the daily struggles and frustrations, to enter a realm of open and free spirit." He has held solo exhibitions at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum (2011) and the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts (2017). In 2024, he will hold his first solo exhibition at Apollo Art Gallery. At Art Taipei, the gallery plans to showcase his oil and pastel works.
