Junseok Kang (b. 1984) creates his ideal world, blending memories and dreams, through the landscapes of Jeju Island and figures with large, reflective eyes. His depiction of a child’s gaze, observing the world outside the canvas, feels as if they are dreaming with their eyes open. The bright, wide eyes, filled with light, seem to pierce through the viewer, freezing time and causing them to drift between reality and imagination. This delicate effect is reflected in Kang's meticulous process. He applies thin layers of pigment across the canvas, building up multiple layers to construct landscapes where his memories and dreams merge. The deep, introspective world he creates invites viewers to empathize and provides a sense of refuge in the midst of modern life.
