Li Jie was born in 1985 in Shanxi, China. He graduated from Shandong University in 2011 with a Master's Degree in Oil Painting, and now lives and works in Beijing.
Li Jie's works are often based on his personal and everyday life, reflecting extensively on the experience of human existence and the multifaceted relationships between people, including the influence of the surrounding environment and technology in shaping our lives and identities. In this process, personal memories, emotions and collective feelings are reactivated through a complex structure of visual metaphors, references and symbols. Li Jie likes to use thick paint to express the unique attributes of oil paint, presenting its cubic and sculptural texture. The abstract accumulation of pigments and strong color combinations blur the boundaries between the abstract and the concrete, the flat and the three-dimensional, the stable and the transient.
His works have been exhibited at the National Art Museum of China, the Hong Kong Maritime Museum, the University of Augsburg in Germany, the Shandong Provincial Museum, and the Fangcaodi Gallery, and have been shown in Germany, Costa Rica, and Panama. His works have been collected by Hengdian Group, Qiaofu Group, ASA Panama Contemporary Art Foundation, Qiaofu Museum of Contemporary Art, National Art Museum of China, and private collections of renowned film and television actor Wang Yaoqing.
