Lu Hsien-Ming was born in Taipei, Taiwan in 1959, and graduated from the Fine Arts Department of Chinese Culture University in 1982. He was the president of Huagang Chinese Modern Arts Society, Taipei Art Group and Hantoo Art Group. A representative figure among Taiwan’s mid-generation artists, Lu has been awarded the New Talent Award of Hsiung-Shih Fine Arts in 1981, the First Prize of Taipei Biennial of Contemporary Art in 1992 and the First Prize of Liao Chi-Chun Oil Painting Award in 2002. For more than three decades, Lu’s work has revolved around his complex cultural contemplation on the living environment. Through his humanistic observation, the evolution of his inner world and different research angles, the artist has delineated a certain solid and unique cultural form stemming from the lower social stratum in Taiwan. His creative work is his way of actively engaging the society and realizing his humanitarian care for this land while expressing his interpretation of history and reflection on this era. Lu has exhibited extensively in Taiwan and abroad, including in multiple major art museums and more than a hundred of art gallery exhibitions. His works are included in various collections of art museums and institutions, among which are the Ludwig Forum for International Art, Long Museum in Shanghai, White Rabbit Gallery in Sydney, Australia, Taipei Fine Arts Museum, National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts and Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts.
