The forms and shapes we take for granted around us–for example, tables, chairs, wings, pillars, horses, books, apples, jugs and houses–make up Fukai Takashi’s creations. As he once noted, “There are stories in the exhibition space of sculptures.” The absence of human figures in his works strongly hints at human presence. A time gap emerges in his exhibition site, where it seems as if someone has just left and will return at any moment. In this gap, stories begin to weave between the viewer and the artist. Upon entering the exhibition space, the viewer will find themselves surrounded by a theater, performing a role in the story of their own.
