Connor Gottfried is a Calgary, Canada-based visual artist, multi-disciplinary artist,
musician and technologist. His work explores themes of obsolescence and rebirth. His
three-dimensional works in acrylic, aluminum, and electronics open up a space where
small machines collide with the gallery to create complex and improvisational lasercut
collectibles. His artistic practice combines elements of technology, music, and
visual art to create a unique analog/digital hybrid that connects the viewer to fallen
and outdated gaming technology. With each illuminated piece featuring a vintage
video game that can be manipulated, Gottfried reimagines the game console as an
artwork, extending the language of art into new peripheral spaces, breaking the status
quo with toys, and opening up new horizons. With a childhood irreverence for
parental supervision, his works dismantle the "look but don't touch" rule of the
museum's velvet rope.
