Claire Illouz was born in 1955, studied in Paris, Taipei and Kyoto and lives and works in Chérence. For more than 20 years, she has exhibited in numerous prestigious galleries in France and abroad.
His works poetically highlight a simple, free and living nature which is extremely close to us.
Claire Illouz explains: “The drawing nourishes my engraving, which in turn nourishes my drawing. Reality is thus stubbornly questioned. Bringing multiple objects into existence in space, making forgotten embankments speak. The delay, obligatory between the first idea and the result of an engraving, requires sorting out the blacks and grays that the drawing, in a hurry, sometimes forgets. Beneficial slowness: to accommodate the outline of a shape on the copper, zinc or plexiglass, then restore it to the paper under the press, it takes time: thus goes the too slow work of the print, multiplying the attempts towards this fragile balance of several voices: the line, the tone, the background, the margins, and everything else. »
