Born in Taiwan in 1976
CHOU Cheng Wei gazes at the things around him, and uses his memories and important events in his life as the inspirations for his works. In recent years, he has added media such as graphite, charcoal and watercolor to depict inconspicuous or historically important objects in his life with figurative and skilled expression techniques. Modern scenes, after CHOU's deliberately suppressed colors, lead viewers to step into the memories of objects.
CHOU chooses to portray scenery is just as Susan Sontag once said: "The portrayal of a person or an event is nothing more than an interpretation, as are manual visual works such as painting." He deliberately smears on incomplete and abandoned substrates, and slowly uses the pen to push out the emotions produced by the places where he has been.
