Andreas Walther, born in 1971 in Germany, lives and works in Giessen, Cologne (Germany) and Taipei, Taiwan. He engages in artistic inquiries that emerge from the encounter of Western and East Asian cultures. Drawing on Shanshui painting, calligraphy, and concepts from media theory, philosophy of perception, and Taoism, his works are both exhibited and featured in collections in Europe and East Asia.
On occasion, Andreas Walther also undertakes curatorial projects — group exhibitions that mostly continue the themes of his own work, and solo shows to introduce artistic positions from East Asia in Germany. Additionally, Andreas participates in academic contexts through holding lectures, workshops, and seminars at art universities and related institutions in Germany and Taiwan.
The works selected for Taipei Art Fair 2024 represent four of Andreas Walther’s series: diptychs, single works, the black series, and the murals. Each series explores specific characteristics of the artistic medium photography.
