Inspiration
When working on a sculpture, I will first shape the origin with oil modeling clay, then finish the cast with resin. I enjoy creating my imaginary figures and the related ideas in a sentimental, poetic and oblique style. By trying different materials, I also acquire my perseverance and experimental mindset. I call myself a “conjurer” sculptor.
Due to the innate visual impairment, I had to rely less on my sight when creating. Thus, I developed my haptic sense to be my aid. After experimenting with various materials, I picked clay to be the one. When sculpturing a human body, I will refer to the graphic, data and the haptic experience I have gained through training to form a three dimensional idea in my mind, then realize it by my hands with clay. The control of my hands’ movements relies on training, that is to familiarize myself with different feelings by touching continuously. Therefore, my works are often based on my or my girlfriend’s bodies. I found such haptic training for control and accuracy is beneficial even for creating graphic art. This sculptural “hand control” is important for my art. Therefore, I fell in love with clay, and try to stay as far away from any tool as possible. For me, sculpturing is conjuring. I love to describe myself as a “conjurer” sculptor.
