Lyla Dushas (b. 2000) is a painter from Eora/Sydney currently based in New York. The
foundation of Dushas's “dark cottagecore” stems from a nomadic upbringing, never fully
settled between the United States and Australia. Embracing the landscapes and characters who emerge from her deep imagination, Dushas generates dark fairytales that mirror her own navigation of life’s chaos. Reaching out through her brushstrokes, Dushas enmeshes both domestic and naturalistic fantasy worlds, giving form to the surreality of closeness to people, places, and things that are physically distant, but emotionally bound to us.
Dushas is a graduate of the National Art School in Sydney, Australia and her work now lives in private collections in Australia, Hong Kong, and New York.
