Ariane Coissieux / France
Ceramic Artist / Tenmoku Glaze Specialist
Ariane Coissieux pieces are created in the middle of the vast Causse du Larzac. This gives me inspiration. The inspiration of immense horizons of wild steppe, of the trees whose silhouettes stand out against the turbulent sky ...
Like an ode to nature, anchored in tradition, bowls come into being, or architectural sculptures projected into the world’s modernity.
Nature provides the raw materials for my research into glazes — currently centred on celadons, tenmokus, etc.
She quest is that of pushing back the limits of the material used, anchored in close experience of the techniques of the craft. Making a pact with the power and magic of fire, trying humbly to master it in the kilns that I build, walking on a tightrope— failing and then starting again—to make the ceramic object exist. When it amazes, the wager has been won!
Beyond the question of technique, a whole universe of poetry is open to specialists and dreamers.
