Zheng claimed in his artist statement in the project of Reproduction Plan: Chinese Landscape Painting “In 2014, when I saw the original piece of Travelers Among Mountains and Streams by Fan Kuan in the National Palace Museum. I noticed that the aesthetic experience of ancient paintings might be reinterpreted in a modern way therefore be inherited. Since then, I started to implement the creation of landscape reproduction plan by firstly incorporated the Pouting Boy(s) in my art, a personal icon based on my own physical features with vivid brushstrokes and cartoon style.” By realizing the project of remaking ancient Chinese masterpieces in his own narrative not only can be considered as the starting point for Zheng to be noticed by the art world but also establishing his creative path to explore the perspectives of art history.
